BIOMEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT
Biomedical waste aka infectious waste is defined as waste generated during the diagnosis, treatment, research or production of biological products for humans or animals. It includes live vaccines, laboratory samples, body parts, bodily fluids and waste, sharp needles, cultures and lancets. In context of India - The Ministry of Environment and Forest has notified, "Biomedical waste (management and Handling) Rules 1998 under the Environment(Protection) act 1986 that compel all hospitals, clinics, nursing homs, slaughter houses and labs to ensure safe and environmental friendly management of waste products.
